6 Keys to Self Motivation

What is the art of Self motivation ? For some living in the status quo is not enough, they strive to be like the top ten percent. For others, we have to get out of our comfortable, sedentary and time wasting schedule of spending too much time on things that, in the end, do not really matter. For Les Brown, a motivational speaker, staying motivated requires 6 key practices…

-Self Mastery- If you invest time in yourself because you have unlimited potential and the fact is what you put in is what you get out.

-Stop Settling-Ask yourself is there anything you have been settling for ? your lifestyle, your career, your relationships..take time to reflect and make your self believe that you can achieve anything you desire if you act on it. Preparation, hard work and persistence is key.

-Develop a Health Plan- The most important part of being successful and wanting that drive is to be in good health. Value your body, worship it like a temple and carry yourself with your head held high.

-Live Life with Energy and Passion- be happy with what you have achieved, never forget the the journey is the most valuable and enriching part of our lives. Smile and mean it.

-Monitor Your Inner Conversations- Talk yourself UP. We often find ourselves feeling fearful, negative and all this translates into physical limitations we put upon ourselves. Our biggest challenge is with ourselves.

-Know Why You Are Doing It- it is important to know why you are doing it because if you do not know, you may easily lose spirit and motivation to keep going. Write it down and ask yourself why do you deserve it? When you feel like you want to give up, read that list and it will help build you up.

War is Peace - Freedom is Slavery - Ignorance is Strength

George Orwell and Aldous Huxley both genius visionaries of their time, prophesied an apocalyptic nightmare for human civilization. Both envisioned a similar future, but with very distinct circumstances. In his book, Amusing Ourselves to Death ( which can be found for free on Google! ), Neil Postman analyses the transformation of society by comparing 1984 to Brave New World. He favors Huxley’s argument that “people will come to love their oppression, to adore the technologies that undo their capacities to think” as opposed to Orwell’s, ” People will come to hate their oppression.” Was Postman correct to think that ?

Don’t get me wrong, I agree that media technologies have developed our society to a remarkable extent, but as with any major technology, there are side effects which undoubtedly transform the social and political landscape of our society. Chomsky asserts that this technology and how it is used has aided in the creation of the bewildered masses. Many people are finding themselves distracted by irrelevant and valueless entertainment, propaganda disguised as unbiased news, costly advertisements which claim to cure everyday problems and privatized information which attempts to construct and maintain the most profitable ideologies and attitudes of the time.

If I analyse our society today, I would agree that media technologies, the entertainment industry, the commodification of culture has lead to a more trivial human nature. Communications technologies have created the “mass man” and has largely lead to the destruction of intellectual thought. So is Ignorance really strength ? I don’t believe so… ignorance is not strength but it leads to an illusion of strength, an illusion of power and democracy. If i rephrased this quote, I would rather admit that ignorance is bliss. We cannot ignore the changes which have taken place nor can we turn a blind eye to this phenomena. For starters, understanding that a hijacking of our minds is taking place, will suffice.

The perfectly crafted democracy includes the following: Engineering Opinion -Representation as Reality- Dissident Culture, Parade of Enemies, Selective Perception.

Cogito Ergo Sum ~ René Descartes
Why hello,
I think it’s about time I take care of my mental mayhem. Instead of rambling in my own diary, I’ve begun to make my home in the cyber world. Facebook, Twitter, and now Tumblr…Social media will be the death of me. Here is a simple introduction… I could say that I am a 20 something Political Science student at SFU but I choose not to limit my entire being into my current student status…instead, as difficult as it is to describe myself in a couple of sentences I’ll leave it at this: I am, like every person on this earth, trying to live an enriching life but it seems difficult to find my voice under all the bullshit that exists around me. I am guilty of wasting much of my life in trivial and meaningless existence which is why I choose to acknowledge that fact because I want to change it. I have realised that it is easy to forget who you are when your whole life you focus on where you will be, who you will become, what you will do. Everything seems to be planning for the future.
My new personal mantra: Discover yourself, your passion, your voice. Dream BIG. Talk yourself UP and most importantly Reflect on everything.
